I am Jillian Cunningham and I am the owner of The Movement Mechanic Physical Therapy in Melrose, Massachusetts. Everyone asks me the story of how did you get into this? And I always say, I don’t have a good story. My dad just suggested it and I said yes, and I love what I do. So I don’t know if it’s just because he knew me so well and knows the type of person I am, and that he related it to his physical therapist. Like oh, my daughter would be really good at this. But it was the perfect choice because I’m in love with what I do.

In school, I decided I really liked orthopedics, sports medicine, manual therapy. I learned a lot from my clinical instructors and found that these common pains and problems that so many people have, you can make them feel so much better by doing hands-on techniques, and then teaching them how to change their daily life, like their postures, the way they’re sitting, the way they’re sleeping. Nothing feels better for me than that. So it’s a little bit of a selfish job, I think, because we got to feel good to make other people feel good. I call myself the Movement Mechanic because I say it’s almost like maintenance for your body. I see a ton of neck and upper back pain, usually postural problems and working at a desk, and a lot of shoulder impingement. You have a lot of shoulder people. I’ll see girls from the dance studio, because I grew up as a dancer, so I know some of the specifics about what causes dance injuries, and they know me ’cause I used to teach them. I’ve been a part of this fitness studio community for seven years, I think. And I said, these are the people I want to work with professionally. These are the people I want to help.

I think the first time I heard about CBD was probably around five or six years ago. Usually a lot of patients, before I started my business and I was just working for the hospital, they’d come in and kind of ask me, “Well, what about CBD?” And at the time I didn’t have that much information on it, and I would say, “If it helps you, it helps you.” I actually received some samples of CBD CLINIC pain ointment. I had said first, let me try it on myself. Let me give it to my family, my friends. Let me see what they think about it. I’m not going to tout anything that I do not truly believe in. I really wanted to make sure it had as much integrity as everything else I like to use. So I did a lot of research on it. It’s made locally in Woonsocket, Rhode Island. It’s FDA registered.

My treatment toolbox includes a lot of things. I do the dry needling. I do soft tissue. I do join mobilizations. I do lots of different manual techniques, and something I always offer them is, I have two options for you. I have a CBD ointment that people really like, or if you prefer, we can use the body lotion. 90% of people want the CBD. People say, “Where can I get this stuff?” So then we talk about it down the road, how they can get some from me. So people love it. It really does. It really helps them.
